I have been working in the industry for a few years now and I have gone through my fair share of discrimination. People just don’t seem to get that a girl can be at a show for other reasons then to blow the lead singer and get fucked by band members for a pass to the show. Some of us are there to work and do a hell of a lot more work then half the guys sitting around getting piss drunk at 3 in the afternoon.

| I have a feeling this may end up being very long. Please bear with me. Typically in our society males are thought to be the aggressors. When thinking of domestic violence and abuse, many picture the man as the dominant aggressive one, and the woman as the victim. However, my story serves to tweak that image a little bit. Women indeed can be the aggressors and the abusers. My story is very personal, and something I have only recently begun to even wade through and process, so I am choosing to keep myself a secret… all you need to know is that I am a woman, and I am a feminist.

| “No clit in the pit!” These are one of the more common phrases you hear at a hardcore show, if you’re a female.
Girls being at shows, or in the hardcore scene at all, has become a huge issue in the contemporary hardcore scene. Bands and listeners alike have set up invisible barriers in the scene persecuting girls and saying such things as “Girls can’t be hardcore.” And “Girls can’t be Straight Edge.”

| sexism (sek'siz'əm)n. Discrimination based on gender, especially discrimination against women. Attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender.
This is something that every female will experience at some point. It can happen in the workplace or at school, at home, on television. It's not fair, but it is a reality.

| Thoughts on community organizing, feminism, and why it is important for women to stand up and fight (back). by J. Brese
"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibility."
Truthfully, I haven't been giving a lot of thought to the upcoming presidential election. I long ago stopped believing that we should rely on the state to clean up our country's messes, especially considering that those messes are generally a result of something the state had done in the first place; and I also came to realize that, at least on a federal level, the type of politician who would actually represent me and my interests would never get elected. Not to mention the corruption, the racism and classism, and the myriad other problems inherent in our current political system.
