Revisiting the Hardcore Scene: A Raw Look at Unity and Respect

The Hardcore Scene: Then vs. Now

“Violence against violence, let the round-ups begin…” That’s a rallying cry from a time when the hardcore scene meant something different. We used to fight for purity in our world, but how pure can we get by stirring up conflict and, let’s face it, sometimes outright brawls? Why do some of us think the only way to get a point across is by figuratively, and sometimes literally, beating it into each other’s heads?

The Lost Art of Valuing Opinions

Remember when having an opinion didn’t mean starting a war? Webster’s says an “opinion” is “a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter.” To me, that means it’s something personal, something you hold in your heart. If someone doesn’t agree, well, tough shit.

Respect: Where Did It Go?

Today’s youth, and even some old-timers in hardcore, seem to have it all wrong about how to treat each other. Respect. Remember that word? It feels like it’s vanished from today’s hardcore scene. Just because the posi-core days are behind us doesn’t mean we toss out unity and strength in numbers. We’re still in this together. Always will be.

Nostalgia for a United Past

“We don’t care if you’re black or white. We’re all friends in the pit tonight.” Those lyrics from Ten Yard Fight (TYF) meant something once. What happened to that spirit? Where did that sense of equality and camaraderie in the pit go? I want that back. We used to stand together, straight edge or not, sober or not, as long as you weren’t causing trouble.

A Call to Bring It Back

What the fuck happened? It’s time to bring back what made hardcore great. The unity, the respect, the feeling of being part of something bigger. It’s not about living in the past; it’s about learning from it. We need to remember our roots and why we got into this scene in the first place.

The Future of Hardcore: A Blend of Old and New

So, who am I? I’m just someone who misses the old days but believes we can bring those values back. We can blend the old with the new and make the hardcore scene a place of respect and unity again. Let’s not forget where we came from and what we stand for.
