The Way I Learned: Making Memories in Denver’s Hardcore Scene

I think that’s when I really realized what hardcore really was. I think it’s hard to explain; it’s something you have to experience to understand

This summer I lived in Denver, CO. I went to a lot of shows, saw a lot of new bands, a lot of old favorites, and met a lot of new people. One show, in particular, I went to was amazing. It was the last show of the summer for me, it was Blacklisted (one band I had seen earlier that summer and just heard of, but quickly made their way into my favorites list,) Life Long Tragedy, Down To Nothing, Cast Aside, Crime in Stereo, the Mutiny, Guns N Rosa Parks and the Everyday Fight. All of the bands played awesome sets, everyone was really into it and I was having an awesome time!

The Unforgettable Energy of Blacklisted’s Set

Then Blacklisted was the final band to play. I was so excited. They played amazing like they had last time. I went crazy, I was intimidated to dance most of the time I was in Denver, but finally, I decided to go out there. I danced like mad, I sang along. I tried to jump up to the mic one time, but I was trampled. The singer stopped pushed the people off of me and picked me up. Most people would be embarrassed, but I wasn’t. I was laughing, and I was so impressed by the singer. I don’t know why I guess I hadn’t expected to have him stop and help me up. It was really cool. Then later on during their set, they played the song 3800 (We’re Unstoppable.)

Understanding the True Spirit of Hardcore

At the end of that song there is a group chant…I’m not sure what to call it, and the singer came over to the group of girls standing by the stage singing along, which included me. He held the mic out for us and we sang that part together. It was so cool, it felt awesome being a part of something like that. At the end he said give it up for the ladies! And that just made it even better. I’m not quite sure why that was such an amazing and touching experience for me, but every time I think about it I get chills. Nobody seems to understand the way I feel when I talk about it, but I guess that’s okay. I know. I think that’s when I really realized what hardcore really was. I think it’s hard to explain; it’s something you have to experience to understand.

I had always wanted to get out there but there were never any other girls and i just felt like i didnt have a right too or something. But i was really feeling it at this show so i just let go and had a blast. Got on stage. Sang along. It was amazing and it was like it really clicked. I got it. All my frustration with life and everything disappeared i went home that night feeling amazing. so i understand .
