I have been in straight edge for only 2 years now. Before that, I was never doing drugs or alcohol. I just thought that stuff was pointless. I didn’t really hang out at parties like all the other kids did. One day I heard about this show, just local bands. One of the bands turned out to be Dead to Fall, my friend’s band now that’s on Victory. There at that show, I got opened up to the whole straight-edge ideal.
That was the greatest day of my life. The day I nailed my ass to the x. The straight edge scene fucking rules in my opinion. At shows, it seems that all people care about is how tough they can be or how good they can tear shit up for the band that’s playing. That is good, but at the same time lets not forget who our real family is.
We are all a family and we all must be unified. A song that I really enjoy is ” this is our family I count on you, you count on me”. Straight edge is our family and you don’t have to be blood to be family. Your family are the people that you mosh with and hop on 20 people until the end singing “I put my faith in you and you let me down” for. So next time you’re at a show hug one of your brothers and treat your mother fucking friends like brothers and sisters cause straight edge is our family and don’t forget that.
