Embracing Hardcore Music: Another Story Like Your Own

A Spectrum of Fans

We’re painters, managers, bankers, waitresses, and even poets. Fans of hardcore music come from all walks of life. All getting into the genre for different reasons.

The Shift in Fifth Grade

Fifth grade was my year of change. It started with Alanis and carried on into the nu-metal phase. I believe almost everyone has gone through that, and has regretted it to some degree. Thursday came into view and quickly led to my discovery and love for hardcore music. The first time I found music that held a message so strong, that it left me feeling, how can I not listen?

Hardcore in Miami

The hardcore scene here in Miami isn’t very intense, but in the time that I’ve discovered hardcore, I’ve done my homework. Music has been my life and always will be. I hold respect for its history and roots of any genre. Not only have I become a fan of the new bands of hardcore, but also the old ones, such as Bane and Agnostic Front.

Finding My Place

One thing I can say for myself is I’ve had no outside influence on being a part of hardcore music. Most of my friends, don’t even know what hardcore is. Others think it’s stupid that I’ve grown to love it so much. I shrug and keep going.

Lifestyle and Respect

I don’t claim straightedge, but I’m not a druggie, alcoholic, or whore. I live my life as respectable as I can. Hardcore’s straightedge message is one I hold nothing but respect for, and for those who follow it closely. As I trudge deeper into the hardcore community I meet more new people who share my views and love for the music. And isn’t that what it’s all about? The music, and people coming together to have a good time.
